The Shidler College of Business at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa celebrated the grand opening of the Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship’s (PACE) newly renovated co-working room for the UH community.

The new room, called sPACE, offers a vibrant working space for all UH System students and faculty who want to pursue entrepreneurial endeavors. The two-story room includes four themed corners, a main area for meetings, high-speed internet access and office spaces for program personnel. Together with modern decor and modular furniture, sPACE is uniquely designed to inspire collaboration, creativity and innovation.

“We wanted to welcome students, faculty and the business community to sPACE this week,” said PACE Executive Director Susan Yamada. “Each day this week we have hosted different collaborative and creative programs with students, faculty, UH staff and business professionals. sPACE has risen to the occasion by accommodating each event with the flexibility for which it was designed.”

During the sPACE opening students tackled a Warrior Creativity Challenge and built the tallest tower that they could to support a marshmallow with materials like spaghetti and string. This required them to channel entrepreneurial skills like creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and effective communication.

According to Yamada, the outpouring of support from individuals, UH, foundations and companies throughout Hawaiʻi has ensured that PACE will continue to provide high quality entrepreneurial education to UH students.

PACE received nearly $3 million in donations to renovate the center and to develop new entrepreneurial programs and curriculum for students, train key faculty on current entrepreneurial instruction, support the commercialization of UH technology and innovation and establish UH as a leader in entrepreneurial education.
