Hilo physician John Uohara created a scholarship for the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo Vulcan athletics.

The Uohara Family Endowed Excellence Scholarship in Women’s Volleyball will support members of Hilo’s women’s volleyball team who demonstrate academic excellence.

Uohara launched the fund with a $20,000 gift, which UH Hilo has matched thanks to a limited-time matching gift program made possible by a donation from an anonymous donor. A native of Hilo, Uohara earned his medical degree from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa John A. Burns School of Medicine.
