The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa’s School of Architecture and the China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) signed a memorandum of understanding to work together on design, sustainability and urbanization issues within architecture practice and education.
CSCEC, China’s largest international design and construction firm, is known for constructing 80 percent of buildings over 30 stories high in China.
The signing ceremony took place on the UH Mānoa campus on Tuesday, February 12, when Chancellor Tom Apple, School of Architecture Dean Clark Llewellyn and other campus leaders welcomed representatives from CSCEC, including general manager Fuchun Sun.
The partnership will create opportunities for the two entities to focus on present and future needs in natural and built environments, including joint research, training and faculty and staff exchange. In addition, the UH Mānoa School of Architecture will be responsible for designing and offering professional workshops and seminars to the CSCEC on a regular basis, slated to begin later this year
