New video: Congratulations to the 2015 UH Mānoa graduates

It was a sea of Mānoa green on the floor of the Stan Sheriff Center as more than 1,700 University of HawaiʻiHawaiʻi at Mānoa graduates took part in the campus’ 2015 spring commencement ceremony on May 16. It was a record breaking number as the UH Mānoa graduation rate continues the climb.

Every graduate has a unique story of what it took to reach this milestone, like UH Mānoa psychology major Victoria Chang, who gave the graduate address.

“It means a lot considering I actually dropped out of high school at the age of 15, and I never thought that I would have attended a university,” said Chang.

Her message was simple but important: “Just to keep going to keep persevering and follow your passion but also follow hard work with it as well.”

Thousands of family and friends packed the arena to witness the momentous occasion.

“Education is important to Hawaiʻi, it’s important to our future and it’s important to these children of Hawaiʻi,” said UH Mānoa Chancellor Robert Bley Vroman. “Education is not just about getting a job, education is about creating a free society, a civil society and educated society. Mānoa has an important role to play in that.”
