More than 1,100 of the world’s top academics, researchers and practitioners in computer science and information technology gathered to celebrate the Hawaiʻi International Conference on System Sciences’ (HICSS) 50th anniversary, January 4–7 at the Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Big Island.

Throughout its 50-year history, HICSS has promoted technological innovations and has advanced the research and development in the IS and technology fields by publishing approximately 19,000 refereed papers. HICSS has also featured renowned researchers and practitioners from the technology industry who served as keynote speakers.
This year’s keynote address was presented by Todd Richmond, director of advanced prototypes at the USC Institute for Creative Technologies; Peter Mars, executive director of GE Digital; Paul Saffo, futurist at Stanford University; and John Seely Brown, independent co-chairman for the Deloitte Center for the Edge.
There were 635 papers presented over the three main days of the conference. In addition, the first day was devoted to 70 full- and half-day sessions of symposia, workshops and tutorials that featured in-depth reviews of the latest research in technology.
