Katie Patrick, a University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa spring 2017 MFA graduate in costume design, was awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student Award.

Patrick will begin her research project, “Immersive Study of the Practice and Preservation of Regional Kabuki in Modern Japan,” in October 2017. She will be working for a year under Sachie Oguri, owner and manager of the Mino Kabuki Museum and Aioi-za Theatre in Mizunami City, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. Oguri is widely recognized in Japan for her work in kabuki costume restoration and revival of Edo Period (17th-19th Century) costuming techniques and patterns.

Patrick was most recently seen as the mountain priest in Two Mountain Priests in the Department of Theatre and Dance spring Asian theatre kyogen production Power and Folly: Japanese Satire for the 21st Century.
