More than 1,500 friends and fans joined Dave Shoji, the second-winningest coach in NCAA volleyball history, and other Hawaiʻi stars for the Dave Shoji Aloha Ball Retirement Celebration.

Thanks to proceeds from this celebration and other gifts, $130,000 has been raised to support the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Rainbow Wahine Volleyball program and the newly established Dave and Mary Shoji Scholarship Endowment Fund.

“Words can’t express how special the Aloha Ball Retirement Celebration was for our entire family.” said Mary Shoji. “We were overwhelmed and so grateful for the love and support shared by everyone. To know that the amazing energy and backing for the Wahine volleyball team will continue and grow over the years thanks to this new endowment, is incredibly exciting.”

New Wahine volleyball program Head Coach Robyn Ah Mow-Santos added, “Dave walked me out of the McKinley High School gym and into the Rainbow Wahine program and that created a lot of opportunities for me.” Mow-Santos continued, “I look forward to paying it forward with the next generation of Rainbow Wahine successes. With the continued support from our community, and the hard-work and commitment of our student-athletes we can grow Dave’s legacy.”
