Rota, who has more than 40 years of service in public education in Hawaiʻi, was recognized by the Board of Regents and honored for his contributions to the university.

Rota became chancellor of Honolulu Community College in 2009 after serving as interim chancellor for one year. Prior to heading the Honolulu campus, he served as associate vice president for academic affairs for the University of Hawaiʻi Community Colleges.
