The first Ka Leo Arts Festival takes place on the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa campus on Thursday, October 20, 4–8 p.m.
A part of 2011 Homecoming week events, it begins at the UH Art Building and continues along McCarthy Mall to Kennedy Theatre.
Admission is free. Parking is available in the lower campus parking structure.
At the Art Building, there will be tours of an interactive mini–golf installation, a public weaving demonstration and student artwork for sale.
Event activities
- More than 30 booths on McCarthy Mall featuring food vendors, student and outside artists,Ka Leo, KTUH radio and more
- A student arts competition for submissions that express the “Mānoa experience”; winners will be announced during the festival
- Kealoha slam poetry on stage in Hamilton Library Square
- Short performances of juggling, Randai, Hip Hop, Oklahoma and Fall Footholds at Kennedy Theatre and Ernst Lab Theatre
- An exhibit on Ann Dunham, UH alumna and President Obama’s mother, at the East-West Center Gallery
- A collage of canvases where festival attendees can add their own handprints
- An after party at Mānoa Gardens featuring performance by the Pushovers
