On behalf of the Board of Regents and the entire University of Hawaiʻi ohana, I convey our heartfelt condolences on the passing of Henry Kuʻualoha Guigni to his wife, Muriel, and the family. Our sympathies also go to Hawaiʻi Senator Daniel K. Inouye, for whom Henry was a longtime aide, close friend and confidant.

Henry Guigni‘s lifelong accomplishments—both on a national stage and behind the scenes—for native Hawaiians and for all the people of Hawaiʻi were many and significant. He was a recipient of an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from the University of Hawaiʻi, recognizing Henry‘s exemplary service to the state of Hawaiʻi and the nation, and his service as a role model for Native Hawaiians. Henry Guigni was a rare individual and a good friend to the university. We will miss him greatly.
