UH Hilo, HawCC campus closures Aug 15 & 16 in anticipation of TS Lala

In anticipation of Tropical Storm Lala, the public is advised that the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo and Hawaiʻi Community College campuses, offices, and off-campus locations will be closed Saturday, August 15 through Sunday, August 16, 2026, for precautionary measures. Normal operations are scheduled to return on Monday, August 17, 2026.

All events are cancelled, including athletics events. ʻImiloa Astronomy Center will be closed as well as the Maunakea Visitors Center. Access above the Visitors Center is restricted to essential personnel.

Students and employees are advised to stay at home. For students in residence halls, Residence Life staff members are available to provide assistance.

UH continues to monitor Tropical Storm Lala and is working closely with Hawai'i County Civil Defense and other County and State agencies to remain prepared and informed. Updates will be posted on https://hilo.hawaii.edu/ , Facebook and Twitter.
