HONOLULU — University of Hawaiʻi campuses including UH West Oʻahu, UH Hilo, Leeward Community College, Kapiʻolani Community College and Honolulu Community College are celebrating International Education Week (IEW) through November 17, with activities ranging from exotic food sampling to foreign film presentations.

IEW is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education designed to recognize the global education exchange between the United States and other countries. This year‘s theme is International Education: Engaging in Global Partnerships and Opportunities. The week-long celebration is being observed in all 50 states.

In a proclamation endorsing IEW, Hawaiʻi Governor Linda Lingle stated that through participation in programs like IEW, "our young people develop a greater appreciation and respect for other people and their cultures. This increased awareness breaks down barriers to understanding and cooperation, which are vital to peace and prosperity."

A schedule of IEW activities at various UH campuses can be found at www.hawaii.edu/oie/events.php .
