University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Chancellor Virginia Hinshaw has appointed a search committee for a new Director of the Cancer Research Center of Hawaiʻi. Dr. Carl Wilhelm-Vogel resigned as Director last November and Dr. Michele Carbone is currently serving as interim Director.

The panel is chaired by Jay Maddock, Director of Public Health Studies at UH Mānoa, and the Vice Chair is Jackie Young, Chief Staff Officer of the Mission American Cancer Society Hawaii Pacific, Inc.

"The new Director will play a crucial role in moving forward on the construction of the new Cancer Center building in Kaka‘ako and recruiting accomplished researchers to generate new advances in cancer detection, treatment, and prevention, thereby securing the future of basic and clinical cancer research in Hawaii," said UH Mānoa Chancellor Hinshaw.

"We hope that finalists for this position can meet with campus constituencies in late spring and begin this fall," said Gary Ostrander, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education.
