UH Manoa reports 23 percent increase in applications for fall semester

The number of applications for new and transferring students to enroll at UH Manoa next semester has increased significantly, and so have the numbers of students who have accepted offers of admission and paid a deposit on their tuition.

By the application deadline — Monday, June 3 — nearly 9,200 first-time and transfer students had applied for admission, compared with about 7,400 at the same time last year — an increase of 23 percent.

As of Monday, 3,051 students had accepted offers of admission and paid a deposit on their tuition, compared with 2,853 last year — an increase of 6.9 percent.

"Naturally we‘re delighted with this increased interest in UH Manoa," said interim chancellor Deane Neubauer. "We‘re seeing the results of more aggressive student recruitment, and a recognition among Hawaiʻi‘s high school graduates that UH offers top quality at an affordable price."

Overall undergraduate enrollment increased 2.6 percent at Manoa last year over the previous year. New and transfer students increased by about 8 percent. "We expect this trend to continue with the new school year," Neubauer added.
