Palikū Theatre at Windward Community College in Kāne‘ohe is pleased to present our children’s theatre production of the classic book The Velveteen Rabbit for the first two weekends this February, directed by Ron Bright. The performances are matinees at 2 p.m. and evening shows at 7:30 p.m. on Saturdays, February 6 and 13; also Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. on February 7 and 14. The Velveteen Rabbit, by author Margery Williams, is the timeless tale of love and sacrifice as revealed through the story of a small stuffed rabbit given as a gift to a little boy.

This production, like our last two Po‘okela-awarded children’s show ensembles, is performed entirely by theatre students at Windward Community College. The cast includes Mia Harr as the Velveteen Rabbit, Karen Bauder as Nana, Seth Franke as the Boy, Zack Gravett as the Mouse, Jonathan Cannel as the Train and Isaac Ligsay as the wise old Skin Horse. Also appearing are Leah Koeppel and Derek Coble as the real-live Bunnies, Jocelyn Ishihara as the Nursery Magic Fairy, with other parts portrayed by Ashley Murakami, Lisa Kinoshita and Adairia Okami.

Like a favorite stuffed animal from childhood, The Velveteen Rabbit will touch your heart and remain forever in your sweet memories. The magic begins as the toy cabinet comes to life when the lights go out in the nursery. You’ll laugh and cry along with the characters—especially the Rabbit, who learns about love when he gains the affection of the young boy. With a Victorian flavor, this fun and heart-warming musical creatively captures the magic of the original story about a stuffed animal made real by a child’s love. The set and lighting design are by Lloyd “Sandy” Riford and the costumes produced by Evette Tanouye Allerdings.

Tickets are $12 for all adults, including seniors and military, and just $9 for all youth from age 3 to 25. To charge tickets to The Velveteen Rabbit by phone, call the Palikū Theatre Box Office at 235-7310. Tickets may also be purchased online 24/7 at www.eTicketHawaii.com.
