Art McDonald
Arthur (Art) B. McDonald has joined the Department of Physics and Astronomy at UH Mānoa as an affiliate graduate faculty member. McDonald holds the Gordon and Patricia Gray Chair in Physics at the Queen's University in Quebec, Canada, and is the director of the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory (SNO) experiment located in Sudbury, Canada.
McDonald is the recipient of the Pontecorvo Prize (2004), Franklin Medal (2007), Killian Prize (2010) and is a Fellow of the Royal Society. The results of the SNO experiment were crucial for and a key ingredient in solving the so-called (long-standing) solar neutrino problem and in measuring neutrino properties.
McDonald will visit UH Mānoa regularly - lecturing, collaborating and consulting with physics faculty on the dark matter problem and the mysteries of neutrinos.
