The Edwin H. Mookini Library at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo hosts A Night in the Stacks 2010: Creating Legendary Friends with Caren Loebel-Fried, on Friday, November 19, from 5:30-9 p.m.

The community is invited to this fun-filled fundraising event, hosted by UH Hilo Chancellor Donald Straney, Interim Chancellor Noreen Yamane of Hawai‘i Community College and Mrs. Esther “Kiki” Mookini, widow of Edwin H. Mookini. Honorary co-chairs are former Mayor Harry Kim, former Chancellors Ed Kormondy and Rose Tseng, and former county Parks & Recreation Director Julie Tulang.

Local artist and author Caren Loebel-Fried will talk about her art and books, including her soon-to-be-published "Legend of the Gourd." She will also autograph books and demonstrate block printing techniques. There will be a silent auction, live music, hula, student art exhibits and behind-the-scene tours of the Library. Heavy pupus and desserts created by Hawai‘i Community College culinary arts students and non-alcoholic refreshments will be served.

Admission is free with a suggested donation of $25 per person. Each $25 tax-deductible contribution provides an opportunity to adopt a book in honor of a loved one, or to commemorate a special occasion. Reservations are required. Call Michelle Sylvester at (808) 974-7759 or email libadmin@hawaii.edu, msylvest@hawaii.edu by November 12.
