Windward Community College will host a Service-Learning Fair on campus on Tuesday, Jan. 24, from noon to 2 p.m. in Hale ‘Ākoakoa 101-105. More than 45 non-profit organizations will be present to share information. The community is invited to attend and learn about volunteer opportunities and the wonderful services provided by local community organizations.

The primary purpose of the event is to help Windward CC students identify community groups with whom they can volunteer during the semester as part of their coursework. It provides students with experience in applying their coursework to the real world while contributing to their community in a positive way.

Windward CC students gave over 3,300 hours in service at 60 organizations through 84 academic classes in 2011. This spring, 41 classes are offering a service-learning option.

“Our students have a tremendous amount of talent and heart. When good service-learning matches are made, virtually everyone benefits--the students, the college, the organization, the clients the organizations serve, and the community,” said Windward CC Service-Learning Coordinator Pamela DaGrossa.
