UH Mānoa Institutional Analyst John Stanley was awarded the Best Presentation at the 2012 California Association for Institutional Research (CAIR) Conference in Anaheim/Orange County last November for his presentation, “Classification of Peer Groups from Cluster Analysis Using IPEDS Data.”  Stanley’s presentation was selected as “the conference’s outstanding example of a significant contribution to the practice and understanding of institutional research.”

CAIR is a regional chapter of the Association of Institutional Research (AIR) and is dedicated to fostering of unity and cooperation among persons having interests and activities relating to institutional research in post-secondary education.  The CAIR Conference is an annual conference where institutional research practitioners, scholarly researchers, and higher education decision makers from California and surrounding states meet to share research and learn from each other.  There are approximately 250 attendees to the conference every year.

Stanley’s presentation focused on the underlying quantitative methodology (cluster analysis) used to make institutional comparisons with Mānoa while integrating stakeholder’s feedback.  As the Best Presentation awardee, Stanley will receive special recognition at the 2013 CAIR conference; will be provided a travel stipend to attend the AIR Forum in Long Beach; and his presentation will be featured on the CAIR website.
