The Hawai’i Farm Bureau Federation and Kapi’olani Community College have agreed on some updated procedures to insure added safety for market visitors and vendors. These procedures have been distributed to vendors and will be implemented starting Saturday, March 22, 2014 when the Farmers’ Market reopens.

The new procedure affecting the public will be stricter enforcement of existing start and end times for public access to the Farmers’ Market. Vendors will set up according to a schedule and prepare for business, but the general public will not be allowed into the market until the official start time of 7:30 a.m.  In addition, the general public will have to vacate the premises when the market closes at 11 a.m.   Only employees and volunteers associated with the HFBF and Farmers’ Market vendors and staff will be allowed in the market beyond that time.

Other changes include increasing safety by limiting vehicle operation to certain times and ensuring that drivers have assistance in guiding their vehicles.

Until the Honolulu Police Department completes its investigation into what exactly caused last Saturday’s accident, the Farm Bureau cannot make substantive changes in procedures and policies as a direct result of the accident.  The updated policies outlined above are an attempt to enhance safety as much and as quickly as possible.
