Educators from 17 U.S. medical schools and institutions in Canada, Japan, Taiwan and Thailand will attend the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) 2014 Western Group on Educational Affairs (WGEA) Regional Meeting hosted by the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) from March 23-25, 2014.

On Sunday, March 23, the WGEA Regional Meeting kicks off at the Ala Moana Hotel. On March 24 and 25, the meeting moves to the John A. Burns School of Medicine’s Kaka’ako campus at 651 Ilalo Street in the Medical Education Building.

The WGEA represents educators involved in teaching medical students, post-MD Resident Physicians and Continuing Medical Education in the Western region of the AAMC.

JABSOM last hosted the WGEA meeting in 2007. Attendance at the 2014 gathering is expected to exceed that event, with about 300 participants expected to have registered by the end of the meeting.

The event is scheduled to feature 14 panel presentations, 28 workshops, 20 discussion groups, 51 oral abstracts and 98 posters.

JABSOM, the University of Hawai`i Manoa school of medicine, trains 264 medical students per year and supervises the graduate medical education of an additional 245 physicians (Resident MDs) as they work toward board certification and licensure. The school also instructs graduate students earning advanced degrees in biomedical sciences and in the allied health programs of Communication Sciences and Disorders and a B.S. in Medical Technology. The school is named after visionary Hawai`i Governor John A. Burns, and was founded in 1965.
