This free event is open to the public.  The evening will feature student entertainment from the Music & Entertainment Learning Experience Program more publicly recognized as MELE, and food trucks on the campus mall.

The Student Media Board, which produces the school’s student newspaper, website and digital signage using student fees, wanted to do something that brings the campus and surrounding community together, said Student Media Board Chair Derek Choi.

“There are a lot of good things happening on our campus and we want to share them with everybody else,” Choi said.

Guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs, blankets, pillows and picnics.  This is an alcohol-free event.  Parking will be available through the Kōkea Street entrance to the campus.

About the Film
What would a pop song be without the riffs, refrains, and harmonies of its backup vocalists? Although these singers are usually relegated to the margins, and few, if any, become household names, their work has defined countless songs that remain in our hearts and collective consciousness. Twenty Feet from Stardom juxtaposes interviews with industry legends (Bruce Springsteen, Bette Midler, and others) and the relative unknowns who support them like Darlene Love, Merry Clayton, Lisa Fischer, and Judith Hill (currently on "The Voice") as they illuminate the art of melding their own distinct voices with lead vocals and reveal their desires for careers as solo artists.  The film is directed by Morgan Neville and is 90 minutes long.
