Dean Donald B. Young and a delegation of professors from the UH Mānoa College of Education (COE) will visit three universities in Vietnam from June 2-13, 2014, to further develop international academic partnerships.

The COE will engage in a series of seminars, workshops and meetings with Hanoi National University of Education, Hanoi Foreign Trade University and Ho Chi Minh City University of Education. Topics will include teaching English to young children; family, school and community partnership in early childhood education; professional English writing for educators; and technologies in education.

With a focus on related policies between the U.S. and Vietnam, COE faculty and Vietnamese institution partners and stakeholders will work together to create effective partnerships in higher education. In Hanoi, an assembly of English teachers, students and parents will have opportunities to share their insights and invite feedback related to English training and education.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education. The MoU encourages the exchange of faculty, scholars, students, academic information and materials in the belief that research and educational processes at both universities will be enhanced, and that mutual understanding between their respective faculty members, scholars and students will increase by the establishment of such exchanges. A similar MoU was signed with the Hanoi National University of Education in December 2013.

The COE’s mission and commitment are to improve education, not only in Hawai‘i but also in the Pacific region. These exchanges among faculty members who have strong educational backgrounds and professional experience will build robust partnerships between UH and Vietnam’s higher education institutions, thereby enhancing the collaboration between the U.S. and Vietnam.
