The University of Hawaii at Manoa and the Hawaii National Guard will host the second annual Po'oihe (‘tip of the spear’ in Hawaiian) Hawaii Cyber Security Exercise, July 18-20, 2014.  Hawaii is partnering with the National Information Assurance Training and Education Center (NIATEC) Idaho State University, to host the event at the UH Manoa Campus Center Ballroom.  A blessing and dedication ceremony will kick off the exercise at 1:30 p.m., Friday, July 18.

This exercise brings together cyber security professionals to promote cyber security collaboration and education.  Cyber Defense Teams from the active duty Air Force, the California National Guard, the Hawaii National Guard, and several Federal/State/County agencies, industry and academia will be participating.  Of special note is a team from Hitachi (Japan) and observers from the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

This exercise, and others like it, help Hawaii and other states to better defend their military and civilian networks, which is critical to safeguarding systems that help manage areas such as banking and finance, transportation and power generation.
