HONOLULU—Kapi'olani Community College will host an Art Exhibition of KOTONASHI sponsored by the World Art and Cultural Exchange (WAC) on December 4-10, 2014. More than 150 works of art (calligraphy scrolls, paintings, crafts, and more) wil be on display at Kapi'olani CC’s Lama library. The WAC wishes to promote a message of peace and understanding, recognizing that it is the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the end of the Pacific war in 2015.

Calligrapher Shoko Sunami will demonstrate how she writes calligraphy on big sheets of paper in which her performance movements are displayed in large scale. Sunami and four guest artists will take part in the art exhibit. The exhibition is open to the public. Kapi'olani CC Lama Library is open Monday-Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The library is closed on Sunday.

Japanese Art Seminar: 11a.m. – 1 p.m. 'Olapa 204, Kapi'olani  CC
The important value of this seminar is to exchange culture and art. The WAC will bring a group of 11 artists from Japan who have contributed to the traveling exhibit to participate and to engage with students in workshops at Kapi‘olani CC.

The Art Exhibition of Kotonashi is co-hosted by the University of Hawai‘i Kapi‘olani Community College, the World Art and Culture Exchange – Tokyo, in cooperation with the Red Cross of Thailand and with support from the Consulate General of Japan in Honolulu, Hawai‘i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, and the City and County of Honolulu.
