The 2015 Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) Regional Meeting will be held at the UH Mānoa campus from April 17-19.  Hosting is the 'Ilima SACNAS chapter, which was the winner of the Outstanding New Chapter Award in 2014. 

The regional meeting will feature two distinguished keynote speakers, a science symposium, and career and professional development workshops. The three-day consortium will provide resources and inspiration to advance underrepresented minority STEM students and professionals in their education and careers. 

Undergraduates, graduate students and postdocs from science, technology, engineering or math disciplines are encouraged to submit an abstract to present their research by the deadline of 5 p.m. HST on Friday, April 3, 2015. Awards will be distributed for exceptional presentations.

The regional meeting will highlight keynote speeches from two distinguished guest presenters with numerous accolades: Dr. Maggie Werner-Washburne, SACNAS Past President and Regent’s Professor of Biology at the University of New Mexico; and Dr. Ahna Skop, Associate Professor of Genetics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) is the largest multicultural and multidisciplinary STEM diversity organization in the country with over 110 student chapters.  

Members of the ‘Ilima SACNAS host chapter have won national awards for their outstanding scientific research presentations. The local chapter provides year-round local support and leadership development for students and professional scientists on Oʻahu.
