NĀ MANU will be onstage at Palikū Theatre February 3 through February 12, performed by Windward Community College Theatre 260 alumni and community actors. Written and directed by Moses Goods, this engaging Hawaiian Youth Theatre production is an adaptation of several mo‘olelo about birds and their connection to Hawai‘i and Hawaiian culture.

I luna lā i luna, nā manu o ka lewa. Manu (birds) have long been celebrated in song and dance throughout the islands of Hawai‘i. Birds safely guided our voyagers across the dangerous ocean, embodied the power of the gods bringing us vital messages of wisdom, and their cherished feathers adorned the heads and shoulders of our highest chiefs. 

NĀ MANU is a fun and engaging exploration of the stories that made birds so esteemed in Hawaiian culture drawing upon several traditional stories including Kapo'i and Owl War, Maui’s attainment of the secret of fire from the Alae birds, and Halulu, the giant man-eating bird of ancient times.

The cast includes: Fenix Saavedra, Sorsha Scott-Holmes, Marissa Walker, Lelea'e Kahalepuna-Wong, Austin Sunderman, Sarah Pfaltzgraph and Domina Hoffman.

Moses Goods is a professional storyteller, writer, and award-winning actor originally from Maui. He has traveled the globe performing to audiences in Germany, Canada, the Solomon Islands, New York and Washington, DC, to name a few. Currently, Moses performs in a one-man show that he also wrote and produced with Honolulu Theatre for Youth about the legendary surfer and swimmer Duke Kahanamoku.
