HILO, Hawaiʻi — Hawaiʻi Community College announced the appointments of Rebecca Kenney as director of the Office of Continuing Education & Training (OCET), and Douglas Dykstra as dean of instruction.

"We‘re pleased to have these outstanding individuals join our team at Hawaiʻi Community College," said Chancellor Rockne Freitas. "Their background and leadership abilities will add immensely to our ongoing efforts to provide a rich academic experience for all our students."

Kenney will manage OCET‘s programs and operations, including workforce development, basic skills development and international and personal development. She will be responsible for providing strategic planning to generate resources for Hawaiʻi CC and provide training opportunities throughout Hawaiʻi County. Previously, Kenney served as director of continuing education, director of apprenticeship and adjunct faculty at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Ore.

As dean of instruction, Dykstra will serve as the chief academic officer for Hawaiʻi CC. He will provide overall administration, management, development and integrity of all academic programs and services at the college for both instructional and non-instructional programs. Prior to joining Hawaiʻi CC, Dykstra served as interim vice chancellor and chief academic officer at Leeward Community College.

Both Kenney and Dykstra began their new positions in October.
