Description
This symbol was created using two important elements from the existing seal of the University of Hawaii:
- the book—represents education
- the torch—represents the light of knowledge–from the Hawaiian word malamalama
The color green was selected for the University of Hawaii System—as the main campus is situated in green Manoa Valley—but different colors can be used to identify each of the other university campuses.
