Douglas Dykstra, current Windward chancellor and former Hawaiʻi vice chancellor for academic affairs is honored with the Hawaiʻi Community College Chancellor’s Award for his dedicated and outstanding service to the university. Also known as the Hawaiʻi CC ʻAʻaliʻi Award, it is given to an employee who serves the college in an exemplary fashion, with grace and effectiveness despite many challenges and obstacles.
While at Hawaiʻi, he established himself as an effective leader with a strong commitment to the faculty, staff, students and the local community.
Dykstra was instrumental in the 2006 accreditation process as well as updating the Hawaiʻi program reviews. He worked closely with the Academic Senate and College Council to discuss faculty concerns and to maintain an open dialogue with administration.
Dykstra will be recognized at the annual Convocation ceremony on Sept. 15, 10 a.m. at Mānoa’s Kennedy Theatre.
