Mānoa’s Kennedy Theatre presents The White Snake, and Windward’s Palikū Theatre presents The Velveteen Rabbit, Feb. 6–14.
The White Snake (Bei She Zhuan) a well known Jingju (Beijing “opera”) enacts the famous legend of the snake spirit who descends to earth as a beautiful woman. This English language world premiere features exciting acting and combat, thrilling song and music, including flute-accompanied song directly derived from the classical Kunqu. The Velveteen Rabbit, by author Margery Williams, is the timeless tale of love and sacrifice as revealed through the story of a small stuffed rabbit given as a gift to a little boy. The Palikū production is a fun and heart-warming musical that creatively captures the magic of the original story about a stuffed animal made real by a child’s love. Tickets. (808) 235-7310
