Windward and Leeward received Paragon awards for communications excellence by community and technical colleges from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations. Windward received a top gold award for a postcard series, and a second-place silver award for computer-generated illustration. Marketing Coordinator Bonnie Beatson and Graphic Designer Peter Owen accepted the awards. Leeward won a second-place Silver award in the student handbook category. Marketing Director Kathleen Cabral and Graphic Designer Tomi Ponciano led the team effort.
“We’re very pleased and proud that the excellent work of our marketing and graphic professionals has again been recognized nationally,” says John Morton, vice president for community colleges. “For two University of Hawaiʻi community colleges to place so high, in competition with so many other two-year institutions, is a real testament to the talent we have.”
The Paragon Awards are given in 44 categories including academic catalog, banners and outdoor media, class schedule, college promotional video, feature writing, media success story, online newsletter and original photography. It is the only national competition that honors excellence exclusively among marketing and public relations professionals at two-year colleges.
