Information Technology Specialist James Amihara was selected to receive the West Oʻahu Chancellor’s Award in recognition of his exemplary work performance in fostering excellence in higher education. He served as the backbone of the information technology department at West Oʻahu since joining the campus in 1994 and made countless improvements to the campus’ technology infrastructure.
Amihara’s high level of integrity and unwavering dedication is evidenced by his excellent attention to detail and outstanding attendance. He develops effective troubleshooting tactics for all machines and updates the West Oʻahu website and other vital computer applications efficiently and always with a positive attitude. His pleasant demeanor and professionalism are appreciated by the entire West Oʻahu ʻohana.
”James is far more than the leader of our information technology team,” says Gene Awakuni, UH West Oʻahu chancellor. “He always looks for the most efficient, sustainable and inexpensive ways to improve our campus network and infrastructure. He serves as a mentor to many staff members as they continue to reach new levels of production with advanced software. As we prepare the transition to our new campus, it is good to know that James will be there to ensure our network communications system doesn’t skip a beat,” says Awakuni.
Amihara will be recognized along with other UH award recipients at the annual Convocation ceremony held in the fall at Mānoa.
