Sylvia Yuen named interim dean and director for research and cooperative extension of the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources, Noreen Mokuau appointed interim dean of the School of Social Work and Kaʻiu Kimura named executive director of the ʻImiloa Astronomy Center of Hawaiʻi

Sylvia Yuen was appointed interim dean and director for research and cooperative extension of the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources effective July 16. Yuen will oversee CTAHR, whose current dean, Andy Hashimoto, returned to his faculty position as of July 1. Yuen is the director of the Center on the Family and has been associated with the center since 1991. She also served as CTAHR’s associate dean for 10 years and as interim dean in 1996. Noreen Mokuau was named interim dean of the Myron B. Thompson School of Social Work, effective Aug. 1. Mokuau will replace Jon Matsuoka, who is resigning to assume the position of president and CEO of the Consuelo Foundation next month. Mokuau started her academic career as an assistant professor in the school in 1983 and was promoted to full professor in 1994. She has also served as assistant dean, acting dean, and chair of both the BSW and PhD programs. Read the news release.

Kaʻiu Kimura was appointed executive director of the ʻImiloa Astronomy Center of Hawaiʻi, effective Aug. 1. Kimura had been serving as interim executive director since November 2009, and replaces Peter Giles who served as the center’s executive director since 2005. Kimura joined ʻImiloa as the Hawaiian content research specialist during its planning phase in 2001 and later served as the center’s experience coordinator. Read the news release.
