 Interim Program Director for Hui Mālama o ke Kai
Position Announcement

Duties:  Under general supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI), act as the Interim Program Director for the Hui Mālama o ke Kai (HMK) program—an after school prevention and wellness program that is based in Hawaiian culture and values and revolves around an ocean theme.  Program serves 5th and 6th graders in the Waimānalo community.  Interim Program Director will be responsible for overseeing program implementation; hiring, managing, and training program staff/personnel/consultants; carrying out the activities necessary to meet the requirements of the U.S. Department of Education Safe and Drug Free Schools for Native Hawaiians and U.S. Department of Education Native Hawaiian Education Program grants to include preparing and annual reports; networking and partnering with community/grassroots community-based based organizations; monitoring curriculum development; assisting with program evaluation; working as one cohesive unit with staff at UH and in Waimānalo; serving as the official liaison between HMK and Hui Mālama i ke Kai Foundation; representing and modeling the program’s core values; other duties as assigned.  Position requires occasional trips to the continental U.S. and neighbor islands.  Work schedule will vary with some night and weekend work.

Minimum Qualifications:  B.A. and at least 3 years of experience managing or working with federally funded projects preferably related to socio-economic, prevention, or Native Hawaiian issues.  Individual should have the ability to work independently; have community building/public relation skills; effective conflict resolution/negotiation skills; experience working with grassroots organizations and participatory decision-making; experience working with disadvantaged populations; work effectively with staff ranging from community volunteers to federal administrators; ability to provide vision and leadership for program growth; ability to effectively implement program goals and vision; ability to work as part of a team; ability to be flexible; ability to multitask; strong writing skills; word processing and spreadsheet skills. 

Desirable Qualifications:  Knowledge of and familiarity with Hawaiian culture; experience with program/curriculum development and program evaluation.
