Krieger Lecture
Dr. John A. Krieger was a long-time, distinguished teacher and Director with
the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Training Program,
University of Hawai'i, John A. Burns School of Medicine. From the 1960s
through 1980s, Dr. Krieger instilled respect, trust, and integrity with all
residents and physicians. During the early years of the School of
Medicine, medical student lectures were videotaped because there were only two
faculty members, Dr. Ralph Hale, Chair, and Dr. John Krieger, Director.
Dr. Krieger's most memorable characteristic was that of white pants and an aloha
shirt which he donned everyday. The white pants reflected his formal
demeanor and the aloha shirt reflected his cheerful personality. He had a
heart of gold and was well respected in the community. After his
retirement in 1988, a Krieger Lectureship Endowment was formed to honor Dr.
Krieger's accomplishments and dedication to the Department of OB/GYN and the
Hawai'i Residency Program.
The John A. Krieger, M.D. Lectureship is presented annually by a prominent member of the Obstetrics and Gynecology community in honor of Dr. Krieger's outstanding dedication and leadership in resident medical education.
