The Hospitals

Kapi`olani Hospital was founded in 1890 as an institution dedicated to providing obstetric and gynecologic care for the women of Hawai`i. Similarly, Kaukeolani Children's Hospital was founded in 1909 to care for the children of Hawai`i. In 1984, the two hospitals merged and are now known as Kapi`olani Medical Center for Women and Children. Patients from the neighbor islands as well as from the entire Pacific Basin are sent to this tertiary care center for obstetrical and pediatric care. The recently renovated labor and delivery unit follows the LDRP concept and the surgery department maintains the latest in gynecological equipment. The hospital has 322 beds and has converted to electronic medical records.

Queen's Medical Center was founded in 1859 by a Hawaiian King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma following widespread diseases that were destroying the Hawaiian people. Today, the Queen's Medical Center is a major trauma center with 530 beds and is one of Honolulu's largest general hospitals. The labor and delivery unit is based on the LDR concept and the hospital's surgical suite is outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment.

Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center is a 217-bed general hospital associated with the largest pre-paid health plan in Hawai`i with headquarters in Oakland, California. Multiple Kaiser clinics throughout O`ahu utilize this facility which has a labor and delivery unit modeled on the LDR concept.

Straub Clinic and Hospital physicians are dedicated to giving the best healthcare experience in Hawai'i. They are guided by the principle of Alapono, which means "the path to well-being through better health". Straub merged with Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women and Children and Wilcox Hospital under the parent company Hawai'i Pacific Health on December 21, 2001. The merger of Straub, Wilcox and Kapi'olani formed one of the largest health care delivery systems in Hawai'i.
