September 27, 2006, The Drug Policy Forum of Hawaii's 2006 Ho'omaluhia Award Recipient will be Tricia Wright, M.D. Dr. Wright is an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women's Health at the University of Hawai`i. She specializes in taking care of pregnant women with substance use disorders and psychiatric illness. She recently shepherded a bill through the Hawai'i State Legislature to start a perinatal clinic for women with substance use - the first in the state. Since September is Women's Health Month, it is highly appropriate that Dr. Wright is our awardee.
September 7, 2006, The Hawai'i Health Foundation sponsored the Brown & Bakken World Health Awards to showcase Hawai'i's role as a world center for health. The Kenneth Brown Health Award Recipient was Thomas Kosasa, M.D. Dr. Kosasa is a Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women's Health at the University of Hawai'i. He is nationally recognized for his work in reproductive technology.
