Description: | After receiving his doctorate, John Waiko, the first Papua New Guinean to reach the status of professor, traveled back to his home village to celebrate his achievement with his people. Fifteen years away from the village leaves him with the problems of insufficient networks and traditional exchange items, mainly pigs, as he attempts to provide a feast and ceremony. Offers a rare insight into the antagonism aroused when conflict between custom and western values occurs in an isolated community. |
