Description: | A group of First Nations people, the Sto:lo of British Columbia, make an extraordinary journey to a remote corner of Papua New Guinea. They were invited by the Maisin, a tribe of about 2,000, living as their ancestors did at the edge of a rain forest. This remarkable cultural exchange is an encounter between the modern and the ancient, the past and several possible futures. In the Maisin, the Sto:lo will encounter a traditional culture, intact and thriving in the modern world, a community united in their determination to protect their lands and ways. In the Sto:lo, the Maisin will see a people who have experienced the losses they dread, but who have survived and prevailed over the forces that threaten their fragile culture. |
