Description: | In the first royal kava ceremony outside the Kingdom of Tonga, seventy-five year-old King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV presided over the investiture of the Polynesian Cultural Center's non-Tongan president, Lester W B Moore. In this sacred traditional ceremony, President Moore received the ancient chiefly title, Mafi Fakapotu. This landmark honor was conveyed in the Royal Kava Ceremony, the central celebration involving hundreds of guests as well as native Tongans who love and revere their king, the world's only ruling Polynesian monarch. It was the first time the king has ever bestowed a title of such significance on a Caucasian foreigner. The video records the details of the ceremony and celebration including the traditional lakalaka dance. |
