Description:Edited film, produced and directed by Chester Outing for the Educational Films Corporation of America, documents various subsistence and ritual activities of Fijians. Scenes shot include fishing with spears and nets, gathering poison vines and preparing fish poison, collecting giant sea slugs known as beche-de-mer, women weaving palm fiber fans and plaiting their hair, kava root being extracted and pounded, and a firewalking rital accompanied by the playing of slit gongs.
