News from Bruce Tizard-Varcoe in England (30 September 2007)

The Fiji rugby team caused the second big upset of the 2007 Rugby World Cup, by beating Wales
in Nantes, 38 points to 34 in another thrilling match. At half time, Fiji had raced away to a 25 point
to 10 lead, but Wales came back after the break with a number of scores to overtake their opponents.
Fiji seemed to tire, and in the past would quite likely have faltered and let the game slip away. Not this
time. They regained their composure and drove towards the Welsh line after a strong run from Delasau.

A ruck was formed, and from this Graham Dewes picked up the ball and powered his way over the line a few minutes before the final whistle. Intense pressure for both teams followed, but Fiji held on to secure their first quarter final place since 1987. They now face South Africa on Sunday 7th October in Paris.
