Library health indicators are increasing slightly this year, the number of students attending library instruction sessions per student FTE was 1.42 an increase over last years’ number 1.07 and the highest ratio since 2008.  The circulation ratio is also up at 18.21 compared to 13.92 last year.  This past year the numbers were much smaller for the number of reference questions answered per FTE librarian at 918.5 since the data computation now omits informational questions.  Students who have taken library instruction have scored well on program learning outcome (to have the ability to evaluate information and its sources critically) with an average score of 88%.  The student satisfaction measurements have an average of 82% with the lowest rating of 76% in the satisfaction with databases and computer resources, two areas that will be addressed in the coming year.

In the technology area, the number of computer per IT support staff (4) has increased from 162.5 to 169.  Faculty workshops are offered at a rate of 1.16 (up from .31 last year). CCSSE Indicators show an increase in use of the internet and technology, and a decline in computer lab use probably due to the increase in personal mobile devices.  In accordance with program action plans, a new workorder system was implemented in the past year.

The Testing Center (TC) has also seen a slight rise in testing events, the demand for placement tests (1,172 sessions) saw a slight increase over the previous year’s data by 1.1%. The demand for Distance Learning (DL) proctoring (871 sessions) continues to grow which is likely due to the increase of DL offerings, from 6 courses/135 registrations in F’11 to 14 courses/240 registrations in F’12. For this reporting year, the number of DL exams administered increased by 19.32% over the previous year. There was a slight decrease in satisfaction with the testing center hours, this is most likely due to the temporary loss of staffing. In FY2012, the TC began offering testing services for professional exams such as the DOT’s Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting, Automotive Services Excellence (ASE) certification and the National Restaurant Association’s ServSafe certification. In all 224 professional exams were administered to 82 individuals. Student survey indicators continue to remain high; surveys indicate 98.7% satisfaction with services.

Tutoring has also seen some small increases; the number of students tutored per FTE is 49% up from 40% last year. This increase is due, in large part, to a STEM grant which allowed for embedded tutors in any Math class. The success rate of tutored students vs. non-tutored students was examined and the Success rate for tutored students in English 100, was  66% compared to 62% for non-tutored students in this course. In Math 103, the pass rate was 70% for tutored vs. 65% for non-tutored students.  There were 359 Smarthinking sessions in the 2012-2013 school year with 237 sessions in writing (all subjects). The most recent Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) was administered in 2012. It shows that 36% of students participate in tutoring. This is up by 12% the previous school year.  Frequency of use has increased from a mean average of 1.47 to 1.61. The faculty and staff survey has shown improvement in all categories. There has been an increase of more than .4 in the ratings for customer service and satisfaction with the hours of service.
