Aloha,
I am honored to have been selected as the 14th president of the University of Hawaii.
I become president knowing that the University of Hawaii is a truly exemplary world-class institution. Already a vital resource to the state of Hawaii, the Asia Pacific region and the worldwide community, UH is poised to become even greater.
I am committed to working together with the Board of Regents, faculty, staff, students, alumni, friends of the university and each of our 10 unique campuses. I see us building upon the progress already made as we face the challenges that lie ahead. Although it may be difficult, we will continue to address the current financial difficulties while we maximize our contribution to a better future for Hawaii.
I look forward to meeting you, to listening and to learning more about our university, its diverse programs, Hawaii’s rich cultural heritage, the challenges and the opportunities that we will face together.
Until Aug. 20, when I arrive in Honolulu and fully begin my responsibilities, I have designated Vice President Linda Johnsrud to serve as acting president.
