Making the Elephant Dance Award

David Lassner
System

David Lassner is vice president for information technology and chief information officer for the UH System.

He has used both technology and better business practices to make he university more efficient and more responsive, often fundamentally changing the way UH does business.

The quarterly Making the Elephant Dance Award was created by President David McClain in 2008 to acknowledge individuals who successfully develop innovative ways to improve the university’s service to students and the community. It is named after the book Who Says Elephants Can’t Dance? Leading a Great Enterprise Through Dramatic Change, by former IBM CEO Lou Gerstner, who pushed the large corporate bureaucracy to be more responsive to customers and the marketplace.
