April 2010

I am honored to have been invited by Senator Daniel Inouye to serve as a member of the 2011 APEC Hawai‘i Host Committee.

This committee will be responsible for coordinating community preparedness for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperative Leaders Meeting, which is tentatively scheduled for November 2011 at the Hawai‘i Convention Center.

It is considered one of the biggest and most important international events to ever be held in Hawai‘i, and it will provide us with an incredible opportunity to showcase the international standing and expertise of our university on a global stage.

There will be many opportunities for our faculty, students and staff to be engaged in APEC related activities.

working with kids for Molokai Math Day

Moloka‘i Math Day

A team of 28 UH Manoa mathematics, engineering, and science students and faculty sponsored the first Moloka‘i Math Day with about 70 youngsters and their families.

The idea behind this day-long event was to engage kids in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) activities and mentor Moloka‘i’s next generation of STEM college students.

The project is funded by the National Science Foundation and the School and University Partnership for Educational Renewal in Mathematics (SUPER-M).
