April 2010

I am honored to have been invited by Senator Daniel Inouye to serve as a member of the 2011 APEC Hawai‘i Host Committee.

This committee will be responsible for coordinating community preparedness for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperative Leaders Meeting, which is tentatively scheduled for November 2011 at the Hawai‘i Convention Center.

It is considered one of the biggest and most important international events to ever be held in Hawai‘i, and it will provide us with an incredible opportunity to showcase the international standing and expertise of our university on a global stage.

There will be many opportunities for our faculty, students and staff to be engaged in APEC related activities.

medical students find out where they will do residency programs

Medical Students’ Match Day

The John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) recently celebrated Match Day, which is when graduating medical students learn where they will spend the next three to eight years in post-graduate training, serving as physicians while also learning a specialty.

JABSOM’s Class of 2010 includes the most Native Hawaiians in a single class with 16, and more than 60 percent are choosing primary care specialties, a much-needed service shortage area.
