I am honored to have been invited by Senator Daniel Inouye to serve as a member of the 2011 APEC Hawai‘i Host Committee.
This committee will be responsible for coordinating community preparedness for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperative Leaders Meeting, which is tentatively scheduled for November 2011 at the Hawai‘i Convention Center.
It is considered one of the biggest and most important international events to ever be held in Hawai‘i, and it will provide us with an incredible opportunity to showcase the international standing and expertise of our university on a global stage.
There will be many opportunities for our faculty, students and staff to be engaged in APEC related activities.

Mauna Kea Stewardship Plan
UH Hilo’s Office of Mauna Kea Management reached a major milestone in its efforts to provide excellent stewardship for the summit of Mauna Kea.
On March 25, the Board of Land and Natural Resources gave its final approval to the Comprehensive Management Plan.
With these four detailed plans now approved, the university is poised to enhance protection of the unique and vulnerable resources in the 11,000-acre Mauna Kea Science Reserve.
