Manoa lecture series closes with focus on alternative fuels
The Sakamaki Extraordinary Lectures, an annual summer series extending the intellectual resources of the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa to the community, closes out its 2009 series with a presentation on “Biofuel Potential for Hawai‘i,” on Wednesday, August 5.
A panel of representatives from local companies engaged in the research and production of alternatives to fossil fuels, from algae to used cooking oil, will discuss current developments in their field and their vision for the future.
Panelists include Frank Chan of Kuehnle Agrosystems, Kelly King of Pacific Biodiesel, Scott Turn of Hawai‘i Natural Energy Institute and Paul S. Zorner of Hawai‘i Bioenergy. The panel will be moderated by Maria Tome of the Hawai‘i State Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism.
The 2009 Sakamaki Extraordinary Lectures support UH Manoa’s Outreach College’s “Sustain Your Brain” initiative, and provide a multi-dimensional examination of Hawai‘i’s progress in the development of clean and renewable energy.
The lecture will begin at 7 p.m. in the UH Manoa Architecture Auditorium, and is free and open to the public. For more information, call 956-8246.
